Who is Raoul T Coleman?
To understand the breeds origin and to work through the lies, we first must understand who Raoul T Coleman is, and how he came to be the owner of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Association.
Coleman grew up with a father that raised and trained German Shepherd Dogs, he once described the day he wished his father had bought him home a bulldog. At 19 years old Coleman bought his first dog, it was his aim to acquire a naturally defensive man stopping companion bulldog that he could market to the general public with money at the forefront of his mind. He started off with a brood bitch called Savannah (see pedigree of Kowabunga) Savannah was an all white female White English Bulldog (WEB) of around 65lbs. During his search for foundation lines Ray Coleman discovered the Lana Lou Lane Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog, at this time her dogs were established and as such had been registered by the Animal Research Foundation for over a decade. Lana's Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog was known for its disdain for stranger, aggressive nature, and soundness. These were traits that Coleman desired for his own breed. So in 1997 Ray Coleman carried Savannah out to Twin Elm Alapaha Kennels to be bred to a Lana Lou Lane ARF Alapaha named, Lana's Detanka Del Rio aka Codi. The breeding was done, but later resulted in the banishment of Raoul Coleman from the Animal Research Foundation for fraudulent pedigrees [1]. the resulting pups were 50% Lana Lou Lane Alapaha and 50% WEB. Prior to the breeding, Coleman had visited Old Southern Bulldog and Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog breeder Marker Ray Nicholas. Coleman confided in Mr Nicholas, that it was his plan to breed a more market friendly dog by cross breeding Lana's dogs and calling the resulting breed "Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog" essentially stealing the name of an already established breed to sell his own creation. Above all, Ray Coleman is an unethical business man, conman, who's mind was and still is set on money. Before the advent of fast internet, the Animal Research Foundation spend hundreds of dollars on adverts warning the general public about Ray Coleman and his newly created registry the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Association (ABBA), explaining that Ray Coleman did not own or breed the
original Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog instead he was breeding pseudo Alapahas of his own creation under a registry he created. To this day Ray Coleman, ABBA members and the ABBA website claim that the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Association is the breed mother registry, set up by Lana Lou Lane and her husband Pete Strickland. This is not true and vehemently denied by the Lane Family [1].
With simple research and understanding it is not hard to see where Coleman and the ABBA's story falls apart. Just by looking at pedigree's shows you that something is not right regarding the ABBA and its self proclaimed establishment of 1979. By looking at ABBA pedigree's one is struck by the occurrence of the kennel Prefix "CRK" with most 5 gen pedigrees where nearly all 68 dogs have the CRK prefix. If the ABBA has been around since 1979 (when Coleman was 9 years old) then why is he the only breeder going back 5 gens?
Lets take a look at the four bloodlines that Ray Coleman and the ABBA claim make-up the Alapaha
Otto Strain by: Buck Lane, Walter Nations, Louis Strictland, J. M. Cel Ashley and David Clark
Ray Coleman via the ABBA official history state that the Otto strain is essentially the precursor/ foundation of the American Bulldog. because, Coleman says they are dogs from Walter Nations, Louis Strickland, J. M. Cel Ashley and David Clark, these names are synonymous with foundation of the American Bulldog. The name Otto is not. The name Otto come from Lana Lane's Grandfather Buck Lane, that is the name he used to call the dogs he used on his plantation. Lana used the name Otto claiming it to be a breed in itself, created by her grandfather, when in fact she didn't have any of her grandfather dogs or blood for that matter, she used the name Otto to sell her grandfathers dogs as a rare, dying breed that she was preserving under the name Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. When we study old photographs of Buck Lane and his dogs, it is clear to see that they were typical Bulldogs utilized in farm work in the rural south, a breed locally known as Old White English Bulldogs or White English Bulldogs a breed known as ancestors of the Modern Day American Bulldog. Warren used to keep dogs that he could utilize on his plantation. WEB were a working dog par excellence, built to last in grueling conditions, they are long muzzled, with thin, long legs. all white in color with black pigmentation very very obedient and intelligent. The breed was favored by ranch and plantation owners of the rural south in the 19th and 20th Century, believing the whiter the dogs the cleverer they were. The WEB still exists to this day and is agreed by those in the know, that WEB were clearly the dogs that Buck Lane kept.
Lana's main stud dog Marcelle was 3/4 WEB and it was the traits of the WEB that paved the way for the Lana Lou Lane Alapaha.
Silver Dollar by: William Chester
It is now known that William Chester is a fictitious Character that was not created by Ray Coleman, but instead by Lana Lou Lane. It started out as a small lie that later turned into a selling point for Ray Coleman' Pseudo breed.
William Chester was a name pulled from the top of Lana's head during a conversation she had with a man who had called her to discuss the heritage of her dogs. He had asked Lana about her grandfather dogs known as Otto which were said to be the foundation of Lana's breed and a breed only Lana had her hands on, This was of course not true, but the story helped sell her dogs well. Her grandfathers dogs were all white in color it was this that had got the caller so excited, he wanted to arrange a visit to Lana's Kennel to see these illusive, rare all White Bulldogs. But the truth was Lana didn't have any all white dogs let alone even one dog that descended from her grandfathers Otto's, Enter William Chester.
When the caller asked to come see the white dogs, Lana told him that a Mr Chester, whom trained her dogs, had all of her white Otto's at that time. The Name William Chester was pulled from thin air to avoid a lie that Lana had told regarding her grandfathers dogs still being around when the truth was they were not. Although it goes without saying William 'Slim Bill' Chester was nothing more than elaborate lie we have nonetheless tried to gather evidence of a Mr William Chester living in Dublin, Georgia, but there are no death records and every bulldog breeder in around the southern States have never heard of a William Chester. Source:- John D Johnson, Billy Hines, Marker Ray Nicholas trainer, breed elevator and confidant of Lana Lou Lane and her Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog.
The name Silver Dollar was nothing more than the name of a dog Lana bred and planned to use in her program, Silver Dollar was an F1 cross of a Colby Pitbull Terrier ex Harlequin Great Dane. Silver Dollar died at 6 months old and was never used for breeding. he was blue merle and an attractive dog that Lana had used in her brochure, a picture of Silver Dollar was used as marketing for her breed and to entice fanciers with the exotic blue merle color, but that is all. After Lana's death in 2001 Coleman began to collaborated the name William Chester and Silver Dollar to dupe the general public into believing that William Chester/Silver Dollar were actually something to do with the breed, as these were names that had been circulated by Lana that he could use to dupe the unsuspecting.
Note: The Photograph used of the fictitious William 'Slim Bill' Chester seems to be one of that is often found as a sample photo within a picture frame. No one has been able to find the origin of the photograph except of course for Raoul Coleman.
Cowdog Strain: Cecile Evans & Bob Williams
Cowdog Strain - by Cecile Evan & Bob Williams of Florida - (British Bulldog *imports)
Coleman explains the Third of the four strains that make up the breed to be the Cowdog strain, made up of British Bulldog imports and curs, used as herding/catch dogs in Florida by a "rugged, cracker cowboy" Cecile Evan and his partner Bob Williams, Both men are once again untraceable, and names never heard among old timer bulldog breeders of that locale. Death records indicate these men never existed and lead us to interpret these findings as proof that these men are fictitious characters, created to help further is solidify Coleman's lies about the Origin of the breed.
BRITISH BULLDOG IMPORTS*
The Cowdog strain is said by Coleman to made up of British Bulldog imports x curs in and around the mid 20th century (1950's) He refers to one dog in particular; Derwent's Geronimo, imported from the bulldog legend, Mr Clifford Derwent of London, England in 1952. Coleman uses a picture of a dog bred by Mr Derwent to advertise the 'Cowdog Strain'. We have uncovered that the photo used by Coleman of this alleged sire to the Cowdog strain was actually a dog named Regency's Corona. Regency Kennel was the name of Mr Derwents Kennel. Corona who was never used for breeding, was put to sleep in England due to a bad temperament. The same photo can be seen in a 1984 article of a British, Dog magazine, coincidentally written by a Mr Bob Williams, a close friend of Clifford Derwent, detailing the fact the Derwent's Geronimo aka Regency's Corona was PTS before ever being bred.
Catahoula Bull Strain by Kenny Houston
Kenny Houston was said to own a large hunting outfit in Florida. We have done extensive research in to Kenny Houston and are yet to uncover anything regarding this persons alleged existence. Death records show Kenny Houston never to have existed and everyone we have contacted associated with working Catahoula Leopard dogs including Catahoula legend Mr Carnathan have never heard of Kenny Houston. bare in mind that according to the ABBA official history Mr Carnathan is alleged to have been in some sort of partnership with Kenny Houston.
